Note: The following is exerpted from a letter authored by over 40 scientists and
health professionals after they undertook a review of all the scientific literature on EMF's emitted by various new
technologies. It was published here, where you can read the entire transcript and find the names of all the authors
who signed it: http://maisonsaine.ca/smart-meters-correcting-the-gross-misinformation/
Everybody wants to reduce their risk of cancer, but the
problem is there's so much information/ misinformation out there. No where is this more true, unfortunately, than
in the current controversy surrounding cell phones, wi fi , smart meters and the electromagnetic frequencies
(EMF's) they emit.
Start researching for yourself, and you can find a myriad of studies telling you they're all perfectly safe. But
you'll also find studies that say, 'wait a minute! Not so fast... here's evidence to the contrary." You don't want
you or your children to develop brain tumors or various cancers, so who do you believe and what can you do?
Happily, this problem was recently addressed by an international group of over forty scientists and health
professionals who have either authored or co-authored 'hundreds of peer-reviewed studies on the health effects of
electromagnetic fields who felt inspired to band together to clear up what they termed some 'gross misinformation'
about the "lack of understanding of the science behind the health impacts of the radio frequency (RF)/ microwave
EMF's.
MOBILE PHONES: These scientists and health professions conclude that only a few (some two dozen)
out of thousands of controlled studies of mobile phone use report no elevations in cancer. They state that most of
these studies "were funded by the wireless industry", and that they "contained significant experimental design
flaws."
They add that non industry-funded studies have "clearly demonstrated a significant increase in cancer rates among
individuals who have suffered from prolonged exposure to low-level microwaves, transmitted notably by radio
antennas." Their review concluded that these studies "consistently showed an increased risk of brain cancer among
regular users of a cell phone who have been exposed to microwaves for at least ten years."
They add that the "latency for brain cancer in adults after environmental exposure can been long, up to 20-30
years." They point out that cell phone use by North Americans does not yet have that history, since cell phone use
began here in the 1990's.
They conclude that the "evidence is sufficiently compelling for any cautious parent to want to reduce their loved
one's exposure to RF/microwave emission as much as possible." This is already an official recommended strategy in
Austria, Belgium, Germany, Russia and the UK.
SMART METERS: This same international group conclude that fears about wireless smart meters are
well-founded. They point out that seven surveys carried out in six European countries demonstrate that about 10% of
Europeans have already become electrosensitive, with rates rising. They point out that physicians around the world
are becoming increasingly aware of this complex of neurological, dermatological and acoustical symptoms called EHS
(electrohypersensitivity). Yet the growing variety of RF/microwave emissions have "never been tested for their
potential biological effects."
CANCER RISK: They state there is no doubt that cancer cases in humans exposed to high levels of
RF/microwave radiation is increasing. Lack of political and scientific action has been justified because the exact
mechanism of action through which EMF's contribute to this sad state of affairs is at this point unknown.
What is clear is that "high frequency EMF's such as emitted by cell phones, smart meters, WiFi and cordless "DECT"
phones is most damaging when used commonly. Apparently the EMF's cause damage to cell membranes, with prolonged
exposure leading to cellular malfunction and death.
They point out that the first wave of scientists to sound a warning about other health hazards such as the lead in
gasoline or the dangers of methyl mercury undergo attacks about their scientific integrity, loss of research funds
and other forms of discrimination.
RECOMMENDED ACTIONS: These scientists and medical experts urgently recommend that individuals and
governments reduce their microwave exposure immediately. They are not advocating that these technologies by
abolished, but rather "development and implementation of best practices in using these technologies in order to
reduce exposure and risk of health hazards."
Since these scientists and health professionals have kindly carried out this scientific review, instead of living
in fear, which has its own health risks, we can now turn our energies to researching how to reduce our exposure
through such constructive actions.
Happily, there are a number of ways to do this, for example: using a land line instead of a cell phone whenever
possible, preventing or getting smart meters uninstalled or placing a grounded, galvanized metal plate between a
smart meter and the house or apartment, using cable instead of wifi.
An online search for 'how to protect from EMF's" will also yield a number of products and demonstrations for how to
do this.
